"Erlewine’s songs, with Bathgate’s production, evoke the earthy hum and autumnal chill of northern Michigan’s pastoral wooded areas and farmland. All set to strolling, or drifting tempos, meditative pedal steel guitars warble in slowly over minimal percussive taps and the quiet boom of a bass; Erlewine’s acoustic guitar and lilting, songbird vocals are the warm, glowing heartbeat of the album, but it is curtained by the occasional ambient rumble of Bathgate’s furtive electric guitar, which isn’t adding a melody as much as it’s poignantly varying it’s growl to fit the mood of each song. The end result is a refreshingly indiscernible middle ground between what you’d imagine as traditional folk songs, with ambient-rock and neo-Americana." -Jeff Milo

lyrics

Walking on this wall
The sky is endless
I could fly I could fall
Or try and suspend this

But time has changed me
My mind has rearranged me
And I’ve got nothing left to lend to chance
My whole life depends on it

I didn’t save my skin
Just to live in doubt
To lie to myself and pretend
I’ve got it all
I’ve got it all figured out

Life don’t work that way
It’s here and it’s gone just like this day
And I ain’t got time for fooling around
So I’m moving out of my way
And finding my own ground

Because nobody gets out alive
I wanna be there when I die

So as quick as I can
As aware as I am
I’m learning how to mend
My ways
They do not serve me they only cause pain
They do not serve me they only cause pain

So I learn to surrender
I let it all go
If I want to live in my dreams
I’ve got to learn how to hold

Life works that way
It’s here and it’s gone just like this day
And I ain’t got time for fooling around
So I’m moving out of my way
And finding my own ground

Because nobody gets out alive
I wanna be there when I die
I wanna be there when I die
I wanna be there when I die
